Egyptian Youth for Change protest in solidarity with the Iranian opposition and in memory of Neda Soltan
The Coalition of pan-Middle Eastern Youth for Change Initiative invited its supporters in Egypt to a second round of protests in support of the Iranian opposition to alleged vote rigging.
The invite I got (in Arabic) read:
The Egyptian "Baseejis" short-circuited a symbolic solidarity protest by Egyptian youths in support of their counterparts craving change in Iran proving that the Egyptian "Baseej" is wholly in support of its Iranian counterpart which brutally supressed Iranian protestors demanding democracy and change.
In the memory of the Angel of Tehran, Neda Soltan, we invite you to another solidarity protest backed by Hezb el Ghad and its leader Dr. Ayman Nour to commemorate a week on Neda soltan's martyrdom in the name of freedom.
Place: Midan Talaat Harb, in front of the El Ghad Party HQ, Downtown Cairo
Time: 7pm Cairo Local Time
-------------------------- --------------
It's perhaps noteworthy to mention that Dr. Ayman Nour ran in the first Egyptian elections after the constitutional ammendments of 2005. He was the first runner up to incumbent President Mubarak earning almost a quarter of the votes in a highly-contested election back then. Dr. Nour was later sentenced to prison on charges of party fraud and was only released recently upon Presidential pardon.
